We found this beetle larvae recently but didn't ha We found this beetle larvae recently but didn't have much luck identifying it, however a recent post by @bbcspringwatch has cleared up the mystery! It's the larvae of a Cassida species (tortoise beetle) - likely Cassida rubiginosa since it was originally found on a thistle.
Fun fact: they carry around cast skins and excrement to camouflage themselves.

Note it's distinctive yellow collar, this is the longest snake we have in the UK and completely harmless. Although when startled it often plays dead before releasing a rather nasty smelling substance - highly effective at putting off predators and curious ecologists alike!
